DLP4710EVM-LC: Device doesn't turn on light

Part Number: DLP4710EVM-LC
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP4710

Tool/software:

HI,

I used the GUI's edit firmware feature and flashed the new firmware. The firmware provided by TI was used as the input firmware, and the batch file is as follows.

# Write: InputSourceSelect
W 36 05 03
# Write: RgbLedEnable
W 36 52 00

However, it does not return to its original function. Even if I back up or re-flash the firmware, the LED does not work.

When the power supply switch (sw28) is turned on, D43 and D57 remain on. Up to this point, it's normal. However, when I turn on the projector power switch (sw21), D57 turns off, D56 turns blink briefly, and then D57 turns on again. Other than that, nothing else works.

I think it's probably a firmware application issue. Is there a solution?

  • Hello Jinhyeok,

    Can you answer the following:

    • What is the function you are trying to achieve with the batchfile you created?
    • Can you try reflashing the latest firmware from the TI DLP Pico Firmware Selector tool (link) by downloading a fresh copy and reflashing the EVM?

    Best,

    Maximus

  • HI, Maximus

    1. What is the function you are trying to achieve with the batchfile you created?

I saw a paper on converting DLP4710 to SLM (link) and set up a batch file to follow it. Perhaps this would change the operating mode and exclude the LED function.

    2. Can you try reflashing the latest firmware from the TI DLP Pico Firmware Selector tool (link) by downloading a fresh copy and reflashing the EVM?

I download this firmware and reflash it. but device still not work

when I turn on the projector power switch (sw21), Command Log of GUI represented below

    07-01-2024 10:17:39.0732  Read Controller Device Id D4 00

    best regards,

    Jinhyeok

  • Hello Jinhyeok,

As for your first response, you may definitely achieve this though I do not believe you need to edit the batch file unless you want the EVM to start in a Light Control mode. Otherwise if you have the EVM connected to a PC you may simply use the GUI to switch at any time.

As for reflashing the device: When you are connected what do you see in the bottom left of the GUI? "EVM Connected, Splash Mode", "EVM connected, Powered Off" or something similar?

    Maximus

  • Hello, Maximus

The GUI interface will say "EVM connected, Powered Off". When I press the get button in the information section, a window saying "'read operating mode select' command execution failed. Error details: error: timed out while trying to get access to the I2C bus" appears and fails.

Of course, I also tried updating the firmware in this situation.

Even if I apply the batch file, won't the effect of the batch file disappear when I reflash the new firmware? What should I do?

    Best regards,

    Jinhyeok

  • Hi Jinhyeok,

Have can you check that all the external wires are connected properly? Especially the flex cable between the PCB and DMD board. You may also go to the "Debug" page -> "Connection" and try to connect to the EVM via SPI. If you can connect via SPI then try reflashing again.

You are correct, by reflashing the system with the base firmware you would undo the changes of the batchfile.

  • Hello, Maximus

    thank you for reply.

there doesn't seem to be any problem with what you said about "connection". I confirmed that the connection was good through SPI in the GUI. I'll attach a photo about this.

Then I think there may be a problem with the board or cable connection. I will also attach a video of when the projector switch is pressed. Can you tell from this video which part of the connection is incorrect?

    Best regards,

    Jinhyeok

  • Hi Jinhyeok,

I believe there may be a hardware issue, I would suggest requesting an RMA. If you purchased via TI.com you can contact returns support via this link (here) or if you purchased through an external supplier you may follow up with them.
