DLPC900: Reverse Wiring at DMD END

Part Number: DLPC900

Dear TI E2E service team,

Recently we accidently reversely connected the pins on the DMD end of DLP LightCrafter 6500 set. We believe the board has been short as burnt smell has come out from DLPC900 side and some part of it got extremely hot.

However, after we connect the wire correctly, the LEDs (D8, D9) still shines when connected to power. Also, D6 (Described as heartbeat) also works fine when LUT is updated through your GUI. Nevertheless, the DMD does not show any pattern while everything looked fine. (No strange smell, LEDs are shining...). Thus, we would like to ask for your professional help, to tell us whether this condition is repairable or not.

Best regards,

     Jamil

  • Hi Jamil,

Because you have observed burning smell, some component might have damaged.
There are chances of DMD getting damaged when connector is reverse connected.

Do you see any heat in DMD board or on DMD?

Can you check for any component damage in controller board and DMD board with help of Magnifier.

Please share screenshot of GUI to identify if any error flag is set.

Also capture serial debug logs to find out any error is reported. Refer to below thread of information on capturing serial debug logs.

  • Hi Shivakumar,

For 1, the framed area in the below image was burned.

For 2, All the component on both FPGA and DMD look fine.

For 3, the below image show the GUI setting. I choose on the fly mode first, load two images, update LUT, and press play botton.

For 4, we don't have the transceiver.

  • Hi Jmail,

Looks like Controller and DMD power supply circuitry is not proper.
You can look at schematic, and check voltage output of all the power converters.

When controller and DMD are working properly GUI screen should look like this. Can you update the firmware and see if anything changes.

Capturing serial debug log may help to identify specific error.
