DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2: DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2 firmware update problem

Part Number: DLPDLCR4710EVM-G2

Dear TI,

I would like to update the DLP4710EVM-G2 firmware with the max. 12000/16000/16000 mA current setting.

Tool used:  DLP LightCrafter Display EVM 7.0  (standard / advanced mode )

OS: Windows 10 , 1803

The Normal mode GUI is only let me enable to set the max current value to 12000 maA for Red/Green/Blue LEDs.  ( 16000 for Green & Blue ??? )

I tried to update the stock fw ( dpp3439-dual-ASIC_1.6.0.img) with the 3x12000 mA setting, but the uptade faied with the following:

 - Flas Image Update Failed : Errors updating the output image !

I got from TI the (dpp3439-dual-ASIC_1.6.266.img  >>  720p/120Hz support ) , but I got the following error :

- Flash Image Update Failed: Input flash image errors !

- Flash Image Update Failed: Contact TI Application Engineer !

The I2C communication is working fine between the DLP & PC. I can set the current values manually.

I have to use the 720p with 120 Hz and as much as possible output Lumen. ( LED current ).

Best Regards

Tibor

  • Hi Tibor,

Welcome to TI E2E forums. Can you kindly explain how are you connecting the evm to the pc through I2C?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Hirak.
  • Hi Tibor,

I assume you are using USB cable to connect to EVM.

How are you changing the current while updating the firmware ?

In our GUI advanced we have only below options to change for update the flash
    a. Duty Cycle
    b. Splash
    c. Autoinit batch file

What all changes are you making in flash update.

    Thanks,
    Navneet
  • Dear Navneet & Hirak,

    Thanks for the reply,
Yes, I am using the official USB Cable (delivered with EVM) connected to HP desktop PC USB3 port.
I made same test last weekend & downloaded the "Falied" firmware file to EVM.
The Firmware Update (via Normal GUI) done succesfull.
The changes I made in the RGB Current Setting & one of the splash image updated in the new fw.image.
(but the GUI allways give me the error message about the output file )
It is maybe related my "favorit" W10 :))
(I have some similar problem with other "industrial" software on W10).
I think we can say this "Errors updating the output image" is related to the pair of my PC & OS.

    1.,
My question is, how can I setup the maximum 12/16/16 A current in the EVM ? ( Normal GUI enables only 12/12/12 )
Should I have to use the Advanced GUI with Batch file commands like :
    - 5c ff 03 ff 03 ff 03
    - 54 ff 03 ff 03 ff 03

    The h03FF > 1023 means the max Current R = 12A G=16A B=16A ?

    2.,
Could you modify the "dpp3439-dual-ASIC_1.6.266.img / 720p-120Hz " firmware file with RGB Currents sets to maximum ?
    ( I cant do .)

    Best Regards

    Tibor
  • Hi Tibor,

In DLPDLCR4710 EVM, default LED current set to 10 Amps for all three LED's and maximum LED current set to 11.5 for red, green and blue to 15.3.

Yes you can set the max current using advanced GUI to max value 1023. (as you already mentioned above).

Now related to modify the firmware, We release the firmware after running the validation test with these current settings and then only we limit the numbers what max current the EVM can support based on the LED properties and heat cooling setup.

we can provide you the modify software with max value, but it will take some time and it may risk the EVM (because the firmware we will give will not be validated for those current settings).

I would suggest you, if you really want the full current then send the command to change the max current at system startup (0x5C, see advance GUI command for setting Max current) and then you can set the LED current with another command. (0x54, see advance GUI command for setting LED current).

I hope this clears your thought, Please let me know if you still need assistance.

    Thanks,
    Navneet
  • Dear Navneet,

Thank you, I will wait for the modified  (max current + 720p/120Hz ) firmware.

I will accept the risk of this modification and we will use it in our own liability.

We have 3 pcs of the EVMs. One is in the lab. & 2 pcs is working on an Industrial envirioment.

In the lab I can use the usb connection, but with the other two is not possible. So I need the parameters included in the firmware.

Regarding the risk with the Max Current setting, We always turn off the LEDs after the measurement is done, the duty cycle is around 30 % ON / 70 % OFF.

(We made a 24H test,  the temperature of the EVM is not gone higher than 36°C with this 30/70  + Max Current setting.)

Please let me know when the new firmware is available.

This is a prototype machine (with 2 x EVM ), in the final version I think, I should use the new 4710EVM-LC. (!?)

    Best Regards

    Tibor

  • Okay. Please provide us time time, i will share the firmware soon.

I am sending you the friend request on e2e, please add me. I will share the firmware in your inbox.

    Thanks,
