DLP9000: USB Connection to Raspberry 4

Hi Francesc subirada,

One way for the Raspberry to connect to projector is through I2C interface. Refer to DLPC900 Programmers guide for details. 

I will check with my team and get back on using USB communication from Raspberry to Projector.

Do check similar discussions on the DLPC900 USB connection.

Hi,

I have seen it has I2C connection, but I want to do it via USB because an old setup (which is broken now) was build via USB+HDMI and worked perfectly, so it is possible to do.

When I connect the projector I get the connections /hiddev0 and /hidraw0, but when I try to use them I get an error for invalid serial port.

I would like to know if there are other possible serial ports to connect with the projector, if I should work with those addresses to make them serial (is it possible?¿?¿), or if it is a problem of permissions. Or any other thing you can think.

Can you describe what DLP platform the "old setup" was connected with and what board were you using to connect to it?  I.e. Raspberry 3 or other?

In the old setup I was using a Raspberry2, it broke and I bought a Raspberry 4.

That should not be a problem right?

I have already checked on all raspberry and linux forums, and there is no answer for this problem.

I need to know what USB adress uses your projector, because with the ones that I think they are related with the projector I always get the same problem: Invalid serial port.

I would need the help of an expert of the DLP products, because I need to solve this problem very urgently.

Meanwhile can you confirm if following information helps you to resolve the problem.

The first time the cable is connected on a PC, the DLP LightCrafter 6500 and 9000 enumerates as a USB composite device with human interface
device (HID) class. No drivers are required since these are natively handled by all operating systems.

This is how USB connection is established in Light Crafter GUI

Checking HID Device information on the Windows PC revealed this information.

I shared code used by Light crafter GUI to establish USB communication with Controller.
Looking at Light crafter GUI code can give you information about parameters GUI is using to successfully establish USB communication.

You can refer Light Crafter GUI Source code to understand how USB communication is handled in Windows based system. Light Crafter GUI is built using QT Creator

Regarding the HID USB driver for Linux, please refer to how to use standard HID driver in linux. Same approach can be followed in raspberry as well.

It will be okay if I bought the projector in 2016 right? Everything should keep working. 

And see if with the last firmware the raspberry recognizes the projector as it should.

Can you also help me about how to reach the projector from a windows PC?

Hi Francesc,

You can use firmware version v5.0.1 
Projector brought in 2016 should work without any issue.

I recommend to first test with installing Light crafter GUI on windows PC. If Projector communicates properly with GUI installed on windows PC, then you can try next experiment.

On windows PC, communicating with Projector should be straight fromward. You can refer to my previous responses about VID, PID and How Light crafter GUI establishes communication with projector.

Same method should work with Raspberry as well.

Yes, you can update to latest firmware. Projector should work fine.

Have you installed DLPC900 GUI and verified if GUI is able to talk to projector?

When projector is connected to Windows PC, you can check Device Manager-> Human Interface Device -> USB Input device -> Properties -> Events
to get address details.

It is good to check with another computer and make sure same error is reported in both.

One first thing, is that I found that the projector was the DLP6500FYE, but that should not make any big difference right?

I attach a file with al the screen shots, let me know if you need anything else.

Also, I was thinking about trying to connect the projector (to the raspberry or to the windows PC) with a I2C cable, can you recommend me a cable to buy, so I am able to test the I2C connection. 
Also, do you have any tutorial for I2C connection?

So my first option is still connecting it through USB, but also I can try to do it with I2C.

Thanks for sharing GUI Screen captures. Looking at the the images you have shared, GUI is able to communicate with Projector through USB interface !!.
I can see Connection status showing in Green and Controller Firmware version displayed properly.

You can look at Below product for USB to I2C converter.

There are many other converters available to choose. You can search and pick the right one suitable for your budget requirement.

My problem is that neither with windows PC or with raspberry I can not communicate to the projector using its address.  So I don't know what codes should I look for.

What example codes do you think can be helpful for me? My problem is that I cannot connect the projector neither to a windows PC nor a Raspberry, using the software nanodlp.

I dont't know what kind of codes could help me with this.

The problem with nanodlp is just an example of the general problem.

The problem here is that i am not able to control the projector with any device...

Since GUI is able to communicate with Projector, i will leave Device manager error.

Can you please share the Script / Code you are using to communicate with the projector.
I can run the same at my end and see if communication is proper.
