SN65HVD231: Appropriate TVS Diode

I'm struggling to find a TVS Diode for the SN65HVD231 because the maximum voltage at its terminal is much lower than on other ICs!

Look at the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the SN65HVD231:

Now, for comparison, look at the Absolute Maximum Ratings of the SN65HVD1040A-Q1:

The CDSOT23-T24CAN, for instance, would be a great fit for this IC.

In my case, the only TVS I could find that I think would work with the SN65HVD231 is the SM712-TP:

Am I wrong in my reasoning? Huge thanks for anyone that looks into this!

You are correct in your understanding, the SN65HVD231 bus pin ratings are a range that not a lot of protection diodes can accommodate. We typically recommend PESD1CAN, but even those will not work on this device. The SM712-TP is one I've seen used by other customers using these 3.3V CAN transceivers.

What kind of application is this for?

It is for Aerospace. Do you have any idea how much of a concern ESD & EFT are in this case and if the extra protection provided by SM712-TP, for instance, is necessary?
