DS16EV5110A: Selection between DS16EV5110A and SNx5DP149

Part Number: DS16EV5110A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65DP159

Hello,

We are using the DS16EV5110A DVI re-driver chip for input and output DVI streams which interface with an FPGA HSSI transceiver block. Since the FPGA transceiver runs at 1V, it cannot not support TMDS voltage signalling. Therefore, we have added external pull-ups on the receive circuits and AC coupled them directly into the FPGA – the DS16EV5110A can provide swing voltages of 0.8-1.2Vp-p.

However on the output circuit, which is driven from the FPGA, we need to reconstruct the TMDS standard since the connection is AC coupled (1Vp-p output). The question is whether the DS16EV5110A can use on-chip termination to reconstruct the TMDS voltage or do we need to use a HDMI/DVI re-driver capable of taking in AC coupled voltages and generate TMDS voltages?

We have identified SNx5DP149 HDMI re-timer (which is capable of reconstructing TMDS from AC coupled) previously but I wanted to have a common DVI re-driver between the DVI circuits so I opted for the DS16EV5110A.

Regards,
