TPD2S703-Q1: Common mode choke and inductor usage

Hi Team,

The datasheet of TPD2S703-Q1 requires to add a common mode choke and inductor in VD+/- for ESD system setup.

Even they are common when deal with EMC issue. However, I am not sure if I fully understand the meaning.

My question is:

1. What does ESD system setup mean?

2. How to decide the CMC and inductor value?

3. What will happen if there is no common mode choke and inductor?

Hi Jay,

1. ESD test for system.

2. 10nH inductor as datasheet recommend, CMC is not special requirement just meet data line requirement.

3. It might be fail under 8kV contact discharge/15kV air discharge.

Hi Ansel,

Sorry to bring it up again.

I understand the purpose is to pass the ESD test.

For ESD performance, We will test with our system board.

I am curious about the signal quality impact.

When a series inductor is added, does it also degrades the bandwidth or eye height/width a little?

What is the suggestion for optimized signal quality, if ESD is not a problem?
