SN65HVD1050: SN65HVD1050

Part Number: SN65HVD1050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , , TCAN1051

Please can someone tell me what the differences are between the three CAN transceivers sn65hvd1050, sn65hvd1050a-q1 and sn65hvd1050-q1. Basically our supply chain department has inadvertently bought all three different types and I am not too sure of what the exact differences are or if they are directly interchangeable. Your kind help will be very much appreciated? Thank you!

  • The -Q1 suffix indicates automotive qualification, which you can ignore if you do not need it.

The A version was designed as a drop-in replacement for the non-A version. It has better ESD protection, but a lower absolute maximum rating for bus input transient pulses.

The A version has a newer datasheet with more information in sections 10 to 12, but the considerations in there also apply to the older device.

  • Thanks Clemens!

    Hi Barry,

In most applications, these three versions should be interchangeable as basic functionality remains the same between them all. I would suggest evaluating the design using the sn65hvd1050 or sn65hvd1050-q1 to ensure the optimizations of the 'A' version are not required for normal operation.

To add more part numbers to the list, you may also consider TCAN1051 or TCAN1057 for newer designs. These newer devices will have better supply and have been further optimized for CAN systems.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Eric Schott
