Hello M.HATTORI,
The device doesn't really have a way to "detect" a bus fault, but does has biases for open-circuit conditions.
The SN65LBC180A only has receiver biasing to output HIGH (/RE = LOW) when the bus is open-circuited (disconnected). This device doesn't have a way to fail-safe HIGH in the case of a shorted condition.
Some of TI's newer RS485 devices have built in fail-safe for open circuit, short circuit, and idle bus conditions. I would recommend the THVD1452 device, since this is pin-to-pin compatible, and implements the fail safe technology I just described. Unfortunately this part is out of stock at the moment.
Regards,
Tyler
