TPS25858-Q1: About ESD Protection

Part Number: TPS25858-Q1

Hi Kuno,

I hope your holiday was good.

I am considering to use TPS25858QRPQRQ1.

As you can see, there is no esd protection for DM, DP, CCx pins. What do you suggest to protect the ic form the esd.

Is there any suitable devices that you know?

Regards

Mehmet ÇOBAN

  • Hi Mehmet,

Thanks, I have a very good holiday.

If you want the ESD protection for DM,DP,CCx pins, you can use the TPS2583XA-Q1.

    Thanks,

    Kuno.

  • Hi Kuno,

I want to use TPS25858QRPQRQ1. Because I want to use only one converter to supply two type-c.

Your suggestion ic can supply only one type-c.

Therefore, I have to use external esd protection device to protect DM,DP,CCx pins.

Do you know any suitable esd devices?

    Thanks,

    Mehmet

  • Hi Mehmet,

For the TPS25858-Q1, it just doesn't support IEC ESD, but it supports the basic level of ESD, btw can you let me know what the application is? Why do you think ESD is needed? and which level of ESD?

For the esd devices, you can consider TPD2S701 and TPD2S703, but both them just can support the DM/DP ESD protection, we don't have ESD protection device on CC pins.

    Thanks,

    Kuno.

  • Hi Kuno,

The application will be 2x15W type-C charger.

I consider that I have to protect these Type-C's pins from esd. Do you think it is not necessary?

I thought contact discharge should be 8kV and air gap discharge should be 15kV.

    Thanks,

    Mehmet

  • Hi Mehmet,

In my opinion, in your application condition, ESD protection is necessary, but our device do not support ESD protection which has dual Type-C for decreasing cost. So for your application, one solution is choosing two TPS25831, another solution is adding the ESD device.

    Thanks,

    Kuno.
