DS90UB933-Q1: Can ds90ub933 work with ds90ub662?

Part Number: DS90UB933-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB662-Q1,

Hi Expert,

Could you please confirm whether ds90ub933 can work with ds90ub662 or not? From my understanding, it cannot. But in below e2e thread, it says ok. So I am confused about this.

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/989335/ds90ub662-q1-is-it-possible-to-connect-ds90ub662-q1-to-ds90ub933-q1-from-lvcmos-to-mipi?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=DS90UB933%20DS90UB662#

Thanks.

  • Hi Elec,

The DS90UB933-Q1 part is not compatible with the DS90UB662-Q1 part. The 6xx parts are a part of our recently-added low cost roadmap and will not be compatible with the existing 9xx parts.

The answer given in the linked E2E post states that the 933 part is compatible with the 962, 960, and the 954 devices. It does not state that the 933 is compatible with the 662.

  • Hi Justin,

Thanks for your reply! My mistake and misunderstanding for the E2E thread. You are correct.

But may I know the specific reason why 933 cannot work with 662? Because our customer do the test due to 633 supply shortage and actually they can work well, they are asking for the reason and risk for this usage. Thanks.

  • Hi Elec,

The 6xx parts have not been validated to hold the same performance when paired with the 9xx parts, across all temperature ranges and aging conditions defined in the datasheets.

In order to guarantee that our devices will operate as defined in the datasheets, then the datasheet specs must be followed. The datasheet specifications include the device compatibility. If the customer pairs a 6xx part with a 9xx part, then they are not following the datasheet and TI will not be responsible for any issues that may occur in their systems.

We recommend to only use parts within the same family. If a supply of 633 chips cannot be secured, then my recommendation is to upgrade and use a set of 913A/933 chips for the serializer and the 962 chip for the deserializer. These 9xx devices are p2p compatible with their lower-cost counterparts.

    Best,
