TLK10031: Changing data rate of TLK in 10G-KR mode

Part Number: TLK10031

Hello,

I am using TLK10031 in 10G-KR mode for my project. TLK10031 is working fine in 10G-KR mode. Now I wants change the TLK data rate to different speeds like 1536 Mbps, 3072Mbps, 6144 Mbps, etc. Can you please suggest me a method to do this or any registers which I can alter to achieve this.

Thank you,

Regards,

Balaji

  • Hi Balaji,

To configure the SerDes to non-Ethernet rates you would want to use the general purpose SerDes mode. refer to datasheet section 7.4.3 for further details. Once you select your desired clock frequency then you would configure SerDes registers for  PLL multiplier and rate for both the high-speed and low speed interfaces. Below example table from datasheet illustrates the selection for these parameters. You would then go to the SerDes control registers for rate and PLL multiplier for HS and LS.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you Rodrigo Natal for your response,

Sorry for the late reply. I am having 10G SFP port at HS side of TLK. Can we use general purpose serdes mode if we have SFP+ ports(optical link). If we can use means, what is the procedure for implementing General purpose serdes mode.

Currently I have tried by following the below steps but the link is not establishing. TLK clock rate is 156.25MHz.

    Device Pin Settings
Ensure ST input pin is Low
Ensure MODE_SEL input pin is High
Ensure PRBSEN input pin is Low
Ensure REFCLK_SEL input pin is Low

    Register settings:
    • Reset Device :  A hard or soft reset (RESET_N asserted for at least 10 us -or- Write 1’b1 to 30.0.15)
    • Mode selection :  4:1 mode :  2’b11 to 30.1.9:8 to set 4:1 mode (default)
    • Issue Data path Reset :  1’b1 to 30.14.3
    • Wait for 1000ms

Our system is working properly if we configure it in 10G-KR mode.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Balaji,

Am I correct in the understanding that so far you are just working on transitioning from 10G-KR mode to general purpose mode and are running into issues with this step (prior to changing data rate)?

    Thanks,
    Drew

  • Thank you Drew for your response,

Yes I am facing issue in initialisation step only. Not able configure my device in general purpose mode. I am not able find proper procedure for configuring my device in general purpose mode(if we have Optical link i.e, SFP+ port at HS side).

Is it compulsory that refclk should be 122.8MHz for 10G speed in general purpose mode. My system default refclk is 156.25Mhz?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Balaji,

I will try to find more details on a proper procedure.  I'll get back to you later this week on this.

    Thanks,
    Drew

  • Thank you Drew.

  • Hi Balaji,

I'm still looking into this and will update you when I have more details.

    Thanks,
