TCAN337: and TCAN337G Technical Question and device marking

Part Number: TCAN337

Dear Team,

My customer needed some clarification on below queries from your end.

  1. TCAN332GDCNT can support higher Signaling rate. Please confirm TCAN332GDCNT can be downward compatible with Signaling rate lower than 1Mbps?
  2. TCAN332DCNT and TCAN332GDCNT share the same marking. Is there any method to distinguish?

Thanks in advance,

Needhu

  • Needhu,

TCAN332GDCNT can support higher Signaling rate. Please confirm TCAN332GDCNT can be downward compatible with Signaling rate lower than 1Mbps?

Yes, this is correct. The device can support up to 1 Mbit/s, but going slower is certainly acceptable.

Note that there is technically a minimum bit rate that can be supported by the CAN protocol. This is due to the TXD and RXD dominant time out features on the device. The TXD dominant time out (tTXD_DTO) limits the maximum dominant transmission time to 1.2 ms worst case. Since CAN will transmit 11 consecutive dominant bits in a worst-case scenario, this limits transmission speed to a minimum of 9.2 kbps.

The TXD dominant time out (tRXD_DTO) does the same for RXD. This worst-case threshold of 1.6 ms limits minimum receiving speed to about 6.9 kbps.

See the Switching Characteristics section of the data sheet for more details (particularly footnotes (1) and (2) in the table).

TCAN332DCNT and TCAN332GDCNT share the same marking. Is there any method to distinguish?

These parts have the same marking. It could be possible to make a guess based upon the binary date code, but this would be cumbersome and is not guaranteed. These parts do not include a lot trace code.

Once shipped, the stock of TCAN337 and TCAN337G would need to be tracked on the customer's side since the part markings are effectively identical.

    Best,
