TCAN1051-Q1: Tying Silent to VIO?

Part Number: TCAN1051-Q1

Hi team,

If I only want my CAN transceiver to listen to the bus, but never transmit, can I tie S to VIO? Do we have a recommended pull-up resistor value?

If we are able to tie S to VIO, would we gain any robustness to noise/EMC by also tying TXD to S and VIO?

Thanks,

Jacob

  • Jacob,

Yes, tying S high will put the transceiver into Silent mode indefinitely, and if that's all that's needed for the application that will work. Using a 1k to 10k resistor will be sufficient.

Tying TXD high would give a bit more protection against noise just having a stronger pull-up to known state rather than what's internal to the transceiver, which is a fairly weak pull-up in the hundreds of thousands of ohms.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

    Eric Hackett
