SN65LVPE501: Any issues when connecting PS pin with GND directly

Part Number: SN65LVPE501

Hi,

My customer connects PS pin with GND directly on SN65LVPE501.   Does he has any issue?  Please advise us.

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI

  • Hi Hattori,

    This should not be a problem. It is a good design practice to either leave this floating or use a Resistor and tie to GND. This prevents any GND spike to get into the device.

  • Nasser-san,

    My customer connected the following:

          PCIe bus on PC <---Cable ---> [ SN65LVPE501 <--> Custom ASIC with PCIe ]

    He can observe to freeze one model of HP's PC on above system.  Other PCs are no issues.  Also some PCIe daughter cards are no issue on this HP's PC.  The phenomena of HP's PC is NOT to wake-up BIOS.

    On his board, PS pin of this SN65LVPE501 is connected with GND without register.  Can you guess that root cause is treatment of PS pin due to GND spike noise?   That is why I am asking.   Any comments are welcome.   Please let us know your opinion.

    Thanks and best regards,
    M.HATTORI.

  • Greetings Hattori-San,

    If i understand this correctly, it seems some PCs are working while some other PCs may have problem. Suggestion is to check ASPM(Active State Power Management) BIOS settings on these different PCs. Please make sure working and non-working PCs use the same settings.

    Regards,Nasser
