DS90UB962-Q1: 962 compatible with 933 and 935

Hi Expert,

Our customer want to re-use platform design. Currently they use 962 + 935 in MP. Now they would like to use 962 + 933 for a new project. But they cannot change 962 hardware design and software design dur to time limit. They can only change 935 to 933. 962 is strapped as CSI mode. Under this condition, is it possible for 962 lock to 933? From my understanding, it cannot, but here just double confirm with you. If they cannot lock, how about the I2C? Does I2C work if unlock? From your side, is there any possible way to make it work? Thanks.

Hello Elec,

If they want to use the 933 instead of 935, and pair it with the 962 then they must either change Hardware or Software on the 962 side. There is no workaround.

If you do not have LOCK then there will be no remote I2C communication.

Hi Hamzeh,

Here is the thing. 962 hardware is intended for 935 and cannot be changed. So initially 962 is strapped as CSI-2 Mode (reg 0x6D[1:0] = 00). Then they want to use current 962 to pair with 933. If 962 and 933 can lock, the customer want to use SoC (locate on 933 side) to configurate 962 again to right register configuration. So I want to confirm with you that:

if 962 strapped as CSI-2 Mode can lock with 933?
If they can lock, then can 933 configurate 962?

And our customer test and they find 962 can lock. So need to double confirm with you.

Hello Elec,

If you are getting LOCK that means you should be able to communicate via I2C. The first thing you should do on the UB962 side is to change the configs in reg 0x6D and then reg 0x58.

Hi Elec,

As I said in my first reply, this use case is not recommended. i.e., changing the Mode of a device remotely. Normally the recommended method is to change the hardware settings, or to change the software settings locally, but not remotely.

If the customer choses to do that remotely, they have to test this method and validate it thoroughly. TI does not give guarantee that this will work always error free.
