TCAN4550-Q1: RST, GPIO1, GPIO2, INH, NINT and NWKRQ unused

Genius 16475 points
Part Number: TCAN4550-Q1

Hi all

My customer has a design with the TCAN4550-Q1 and is not using the RST, GPIO1, GPIO2, INH, NINT and NWKRQ pins.

Can they leave these pins open / floating ?

Best regards

Ueli

  • Ueli,

All of these pins can technically be left floating, but I'd recommend connecting RST to GND if it is truly not being used to avoid any unwanted device resets from noise coupling to the pin.

How is the customer using this device? RST, INH and nINT are fairly crucial in using this device for CAN communication and state recognition. nINT specifically will indicate any interrupts that are asserted due to sending/receiving CAN frames, so if they aren't using this pin, how exactly are they monitoring the reception and transmission of CAN messages? Just through polling the registers?

Thank you for the quick reply / clarification.

I will check with the customer as to the specific use case.
