LMH0303: Cable Fault Detection versus length of cable

Part Number: LMH0303

Hi Experts,

Good day.

We would like to use the Cable Fault Detection with the FAULT output signal but we can see in the datasheet that there is a limitation to the detection due to the length of the cable:

7.3.5 Cable Fault Detection

Note that a long length of cable will look like a proper termination at the device output.

What is the maximum length of cable that will look like a proper termination at the device output?

Regards,

Josel

  • Hi Josel,

Cable fault detection was meant mainly for near end termination. Meaning short to within 1m of B1694A cable. Also, one can fine tune internal register settings to set the threshold  for different cables. However, this has not been characterized and therefor there could be part to part variation. Therefor it is recommended to use this feature for mainly near end termination.
