TPD4E001: can IO1&IO4 / IO2&IO3 connect together ?

Hi Team,

I am finding a part can P2P replace USBLC6-2.https://www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/usblc6-2.pdf

I found that we have TPD4E001 is pin to pin with it, but we are 4 Channel instead if two, so I'm asking this question : can IO1&IO4 / IO2&IO3 connect together and provide the same protection function ?

I know we have two channel TPD2E001 which have the same functional with USBLC6-2, but it is not P2P.

Hi Kai,

Connecting the inputs together will affect the functionality of the device, you would have two uni-directional diodes in parallel. Every diode has a slightly different forward voltage; even multi-ch diodes are not perfectly matched if you compare each channel. If two channels are connected in parallel, the one with the lower voltage drop will conduct most of the current.

But I'm curies, even the one(diode) with the lower voltage drop will conduct most of the current, it should be fine ? Since in the ideal design it should be able to support the full current just like we use a single channel for each signal path ?

So will you think using two diodes in parallel is not workable ? And have risk ?

Hi Kai,

It should be fine, if the customer is concerned, they could also just float the second input pin on each line.
