THVD8010: with isolation?

Part Number: THVD8010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS6222, THVD8000

Do you have an IC which transmits 485 signals as OOK, just like THVD8010 but has got isolation as well, like MAX22025. When I searched, I got ICs which use OOK for internal isolation and do not transmit out OOK signals.

  • Hi Amit,

The MAX22025 is not an isolated Power over RS-485 device so its not really comparable to the THVD8010 - its an isolated RS-485 device - which we do have - please see isolated RS-485 devices here: https://www.ti.com/interface/rs-485-rs-422/products.html#1690=Yes&sort=1690;asc&

That being said - we don't have a directly isolated THVD8010 - we do have a design with the THVD80x0 family that utilizes isolation due to high voltages - but it doesn't require high voltages and it is isolated - please see application note here: https://www.ti.com.cn/cn/lit/an/slla590/slla590.pdf?ts=1684771684642 - essentially you feed the signals from the THVD8010 into the THS6222 (or similar amp) which increases the current to drive the transformer. This design was made with high voltage in mind - so some of the protection may not be necessary depending on your specific use case. Also as one final note - the app note really only talks about the THVD8000 - but from a design point of view its exactly the same and the same techniques - the difference being that the THVD8000 has a higher maximum modulation frequency but the THVD8010 has a larger hysteresis window.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Best,
