TUSB216I: Asking for EQ/Boost setting Guidelines of TUSB216I

Part Number: TUSB216I
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB216-Q1

Hi expert,

My customer asked a question regarding EQ settings on TUSB216I.

I understood that Edgd/DC boost is helping maintain high/low voltages in the EYE pattern and RX sensitivity help compensate signal’s rise/falling edge timings.

Then, What determines the difference between Boost level 1 and 3 AND RX_SEN Low and High? Please let me know if there is something like an approximate gain value.

Thanks,

Jay

  • Hi Jay,

For DC boost and RX sensitivity parameters that determine levels, please refer to the Typical Application and Design Requirements of the datasheet.

Due to the nature of our USB 2 redriver solution, there is no specific insertion loss (in dB) that accurately corresponds to a particular boost setting of the device. Please find the rough estimates below for AC boost provided by TUSB216-Q1. These numbers are based on eye diagrams in the datasheet and are all typical values. Note that I would recommend starting the redriver to the lowest setting (BOOST: 0, RX_SEN: LOW) and then incrementing the level setting until passing the test.

    AC Boost at 240MHz (typ)

    Boost 0: 3.0 dB
    Boost 1: 3.5 dB
    Boost 2: 4.7 dB
    Boost 3: 5.2 dB

    Best,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

Sorry for re opening this thread. I'd like to double check one thing with you.

My customer wants to use RXsens resistors for 30K&10K rather than 37.5K&12.5K which is used in the datasheet. As far as I know,  as long as we are maintaining the ratio between the resistors, which in this case is 37.5-12.5K and my customer's 30-10K, that should work. Am I correct?

    Thanks,

    Jay

  • Hi Jay,

37.5K & 12.5K ohm are the parameters for the design example.

Typically, it depends on the input voltage supply and RX_SEN level. Please refer to Input RX_SEN electrical characteristics of the datasheet below.

For example, if Vcc is 5V used, the minimum high-level input voltage would be more than 3.3V, and the maximum high-level input voltage would be less than 5V.

If you want to clarify the RXsen resistor parameters, please provide Vcc and RX_Sen level they want.

    Best,

    Josh
