I am sending this query with a general question in regards to compatibility of the serializer/deserializers. Is there a rule of thumb for determining whether a pair serializer and deserializer are compatible with one another?
More specifically speaking are DS90UB941AS-Q1 and DS90UB928Q-Q1 a compatible serializer and deserializer pair? And if yes, is there anything we need to keep in mind specifically?

In order to know if a serializer is compatible with a deserializer you would need to look at the datasheet.

The 941 is compatible with the 928:
is there anything we need to keep in mind specifically?
It depends on your application for example:
You need to consider the cable and connector you would want to use
What resolution you would want to display? The 928 only supports up to 720p but if you have a 1080p monitor then the 928 would not work
Do you want coax or STP?
I would suggest you to figure out what your needs are and then read through the datasheets of devices that are compatible with the 941 and choose the device that better fits your application.
