You can just connect the A/Y and B/Z pins together. Compare the internal schematics of the SN65HVD30 and the SN65HVD10:

So if a full duplex device has enables you can wire it as a half-duplex by connecting A to Y and B to Z directly.
For devices like the SN65HVD30 - you can't because the driver is always active and will constantly be driving so they must remain as full duplex.
Why is your customer trying to use a full-duplex device as a half duplex?
