SN75DP139: Question about SN75DP139 and HD3SS460 dual lane and F.cu and B.cu problem

Hello, This is developer who is interested in your product. I have a series of problem so I need your help.

While I`m designing USB C part, I used HD3SS460 to seperate USB signal and DP siganl, and sued SN75DP139 to change DP singal to HDMI signal. but It came with two problems,

1. DP to HDMI PCB routing is "Physically impossible whien using only F.cu" HDMI connector do not allow HDMI signaling using only F.cu(I`m 6 layer now)

2. While using PFC, connector pin count is seriously low, so I have to connect only LNA and LNB to d1 and d2.

Is it OK to use back cupper to use DP and HDMI routing? and Is it available to use only two lane DP to signal SN75DP139?

Hi,

The SN75DP139 is a DP++ to HDMI passive Level-Shifting Re-Driver. For your design, you would need a DP to HDMI active protocol converter. We do not have an active protocol converter solution in our product portfolio, but you can take a look at the MCDP5200, https://www.kinet-ic.com/mcdp5200/, and see if it fits your need.

That is really, really bad. My product is now Minimal Value Product so I have to make everything cheap...That means I have to give up the feature "DP to HDMI" for now...well, at least I can use HD3SS460 for my MVP product. Can I use HD3SS460 and than active DP++ to HDMI ic to cut down my product`s cost? My device is planning to have 2 source of DP signal, and I am planning to merge those two DP signal to one and than change this DP signal to HDMI singal.

HI,

You can still use HD3SS460 to output DP only signal. If anyone wants to have HDMI output, then they will need a DP to HDMI active protocol converter.

DP++ is not support over the USB Type-C.

Than if i have to use usb signal and dp signal out of it, I have to design with usb3 ss lane and dp 2 lane. (HD3SS460 supports usb 3+dp 2 lane signal)

Is that right?

Hi,

It will be similar to this block diagram in the datasheet,

The 4 DP lanes will go to a DP connector, and USB will go to a USB connector.

There will also be a PD controller (not shown in the block diagram) that controls HD3SS460, and configure HD3SS460 into USB only, USB + 2 DP lanes, or 4 DP lanes depending on the PD controller CC negotiation.

You can then plug a DP to HDMI active protocol converter into the DP connector if you want to have a HDMI output.
