SN65DSI84: How to set the resolution

Part Number: SN65DSI84

Dear TI experts,

My customer considers SN65DSI84 for their new application.

And they asked about setting the resolution.

1. I just saw the description on page 35 in the datasheet, but I need more detailed information.

Is it controlled by GPIO port? or firmware? Where can I check detailed information?

2. Does ADDR pin just set to input high or low by external MCU?

3. Can SN65DSI84 support all resolutions below?

800 * 480

1280 * 800

1366 * 768

1920 * 1080

Please check these issues. Thanks.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hey Chase,

Looking into this now. I will have a response by the end of today.

  • Hey Chase,

    1) The SN65DSI84 does not control the resolution of the output at all. The output resolution will be determined by the display panel itself. The display panel will have values in the datasheet which will determine the LVDS output frequency required to drive the display panel. These parameters specific to the display must be set correctly in the SN65DSI84. For more information please have a look through section 7 of the datasheet.

    2) ADDR is used to control the SN65DSI84's I2C address. As seen from table below:

    3) The maximum recommended resolution 1920 x 1200 at 60 frames per second, with up to 24 bits per pixel, so all other lower resolution should work fine.
