DS125DF111: Default code and link training

Hi Team,

I have 3 questions about DS125DF111, could you help me?

1. If customer use external EEPROM but not yet program EEPROM, will DS125DF111 still works once it have VCC? 

2. Follow question1, if the answer of question1 is yes, what's the adaption mode? 

3. DS125DF111 can not use link training right? I remember I had see DS125DF111 no need link training in other thread, just double check.

    I performed an experiment to test this. I configured the DS125DF111 for SMBus master mode (ENSMB = float) but did not connect an EEPROM to the SDA/SCL lines. After powering on the device, I found that the DONE# pin was never pulled low (indicating EEPROM read has completed) and retimer control was never reverted to SMBus slave mode.

    Therefore, I don't expect the retimer to work in SMBus master mode without a programmed external EEPROM. The retimer can be used if the ENSMB pin is pulled high (SMBus slave mode) or pulled low (external pin control mode).

    That's correct, our ethernet retimers do not support link training, however we have several ethernet redrivers which do support link training.
