The SCx and SDx pins of the PCA9548A should be pulled up even when not in use due to the nature of the I2C protocol and the design of the PCA9548A itself.
It's recommended to use pull-up resistors even when not in use to ensure that the I2C bus lines are at a defined voltage level, preventing them from floating which could lead to erroneous data transmission or device malfunction.
