DS90UB962-Q1: Ub962 bandwidth

Part Number: DS90UB962-Q1

1. The camera uses 953 2lane 1920x1080 and the data format is yuyv 25fps. Can Ub962 support four cameras simultaneously? How many cameras does ub962 support in terms of bandwidth?
2. The camera adopts 953 4lane 1920x1080 and the data format is yuyv 30fps. Can Ub962 support four cameras simultaneously?
3. One of the two cameras mentioned above needs to be synchronized, while the other does not. Can Ub962 connect both types of cameras simultaneously?

  • Hello GG Yang,

    1. The camera uses 953 2lane 1920x1080 and the data format is yuyv 25fps. Can Ub962 support four cameras simultaneously? How many cameras does ub962 support in terms of bandwidth?

I am not aware of the YUYV format, but I know the UYVY which doubles the payload data size from 16 to 32 bits/pixel. *** Please confirm ***

    If the above assumption is correct, the total CSI-2 payload from each image sensor will be 1920 x 1080 x 25 x 1.25 x 32 = 2.074Gbps

First, this data rate is not supported using the UB953 2-lane configurations. You need 4-lanes.

Second, 4x cameras will together result ~ 8.3Gbps of CSI data, which is not supported using the UB962 (single output port). You may need to use the UB960 instead because it has 2x CSI output ports.

The max number of the above cameras the UB962 can support is 3.

    2. The camera adopts 953 4lane 1920x1080 and the data format is yuyv 30fps. Can Ub962 support four cameras simultaneously?

for 30fps the UB962 can support 2 cameras. Again, this is based on the above consideration that YUYV is same as UYVY, i.e. 32-bits/pixel.

***** If YUYV requires only 16-bits/pixel, then all the above is supported *****

    3. One of the two cameras mentioned above needs to be synchronized, while the other does not. Can Ub962 connect both types of cameras simultaneously?

    Yes, this is supported.

  •  Why multiply by 1.25?

  • 25% is estimated blanking. However, this can be less or more, you need to get the exact number from the Image sensor's settings/vendor.
