Will the TUSB1002A recover the loss before or after the re-driver?

  • The TUSB1002A, TUSB1044, and TUSB1064 are linear USB re-drivers that compensate for loss in a PCB trace. A linear re-driver ensures that the output (TX pins) are a 1:1 linear function of the input (RX pins). Put simply, this means the TUSB1002A (and all linear re-drivers) will only compensate for loss on signals that are received, not transmitted.

    Since USB is a bi-directional interface, one side of the re-driver can be compensated on each channel. Here’s a diagram showing how the TUSB1002A compensates loss on the TX and RX channels in a USB system:

    When designing a system with a linear re-driver, its important to make sure your USB host can compensate for the RX channel after the re-driver. You can see from the diagram that the re-driver will not help with this part of the trace, so its up to the host to handle any loss created by this section.
