TUSB501: What is the differences between Gen3 and Gen4 status machine in USB redriver

Part Number: TUSB501
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB522P

Tool/software:

Hi Ti experts,

My customer want to select a 5Gbps USB redriver from TUSB501 and TUSB522.

Question1: What is the differences between Gen3 and Gen4 status machines in USB redriver

Question2: Waht are the advantages and disadvanages of Gen 3 and Gen4 status machines.]

  • Hi Gary,

The 522P and 501 have different USB state machines. The difference is that the state machine on the TUSB501 is a single-channel USB state machine while the 522P has a dual-channel state machine. In terms of functionality, the TUSB522P operates similarly to two TUSB501s in a single chip.

Is the customer looking at using one 522P vs using two 501s? Do they have a key concern? (price, space, power,...)

    Best,

    Shane
