MAX3232E: MAX3232ECPWR, U1 Low Bias

Part Number: MAX3232E

Tool/software:

Hi Texas Instruments (TI) Team,

"MAX3232ECPWR, U1 Low Bias"

At the beginning, we had encountered fail initialize test on related location: U1 (RS232 Driver) at IO board. After we analyze it related to pin3 refer to GND to PIN had low bias value.

Our tester which is designed by our end customer COGNEX had been rejected bias: 0.3 and accepted bias 0.5. So we try to sampling measure the component raw parts with multimeter and found out all component bias are around 0.3

So we tried raise ticket and feedback to TI, and TI feedback was In reference to the measurement illustrated with a multimeter, the PIN to GND resistance are not part of the datasheet electrical specifications.

We feedback again to our end customer COGNEX test team to verify the feedback from TI. COGNEX test team confirmed it was component quality issue due to low bias.

May I know who the TI engineer and COGNEX engineer discussion approval for this component MAX3232ECPWR?

  • Pins 1/3/4/5 are for the flying capacitors. They will be switched, so you must not try to measure a DC value with a multimeter. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that these pins behave in any specific way. As you have seen, different dies can result in different measurements. This is not a problem.

The only way to test whether the chip works correctly is to measure the output voltages (V+, V−).
