DP83TG720EVM-MC: About the strap function of SPE PHY (DP83TG720RWRHARQ1),AND MCU: How to program with DP83867 and DP83TG720?

Part Number: DP83TG720EVM-MC

Tool/software:

1. Regarding LED_0, would you like to ask what this function is?
What are the differences between Slave and Master settings?

2. Regarding LED_1 settings, would you like to ask what the Autonomous function is?

3.The MCU in the EVM board SNLU289 can be used as a USB bridge and monitoring PHY. There are only three pins INT#, WAKE, and INH connected.
How does the MCU program with DP83867 and DP83TG720?

  • Hi Jim,

You should be able to find most of your answers in the datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/dp83tg720s-q1.pdf?ts=1732214836633&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FDP83TG720S-Q1

    1. Regarding LED_0, would you like to ask what this function is?
What are the differences between Slave and Master settings?

Please refer to the datasheet, the section 7.4.7.1 MDI Master and MDI Slave Configuration. For two PHYs to link up, one must be in master and one must be in slave.

    2. Regarding LED_1 settings, would you like to ask what the Autonomous function is?

    See section 7.4.4 Normal.

3.The MCU in the EVM board SNLU289 can be used as a USB bridge and monitoring PHY. There are only three pins INT#, WAKE, and INH connected.
How does the MCU program with DP83867 and DP83TG720?

I'm not sure where you got this diagram, but the DP83TG720 EVM has jumpers which connect to the MDC/MDIO pins of DP83867 and the DP83TG720, which is how they are programmed.

    Best regards,

    Melissa

  • Question3.(Our customers want to know)

Based on the block diagram, our followed the TI’s media converter EVM board. The MDC/MDIO signals of both the PHYs appear to be controlled by a MCU in the board which looks to configure the chipsets. MCU How does  deal with these signals?   (Because only three pins INT#, WAKE and INH are connected. How to program with DP83867 and DP83TG720)
