TUSB1064RNQEVM: 4 Lane DP Mode

Hi Jeromin:

  Did you test with TUSB1064EVM?

   If you  can make  two lanes DP works, 4  lanes DP should work too. You just need to change setting to CTL0 low and CTL1 high, or may need to change EQ setting.

   For the test procedure, can you change setting to  CTL0 low and CTL1 high with power off first , then connect source and monitor , turn  on power switch on EVM  at the last step.

Hi Brian, I'm testing with TUSB1064RNQEVM. It doesn't have a power switch, it's powered by the type-c cable. Starting with CTL0 low and CTL1 high is what I did dozens of times, without success. In datasheet, chapter 8.4.1, and other posts like this and this, it is clearly stated that the TUSB1064 can't be started right into 4 Lane DP mode, there MUST be an transition.

  You need to disiable PD multi mode to make DP 4 lane work.

no, not yet, as I haven't been enganged into the PD controller yet. So, it's only possible to get DP 4 Lane by changing the firmware on PD controller, right? If so, I'll check out how to update it's firmware.

Can you give me some information about the modes/current state of the firmware? Right now, it doesn't support or handle out a DP 4 Lane connection? I thought the TUSB can be brought into 4 Lane Mode only with GPIO config, and PD ctrl only handles cable flip and mode by changing the corresponding 3 GPIOs?

    GPIO (CTL0/1, FLIP) control from PD controller is just to switch TUSB1064 mux for  different modes.

 But the multifunction bit in firmware  is used to determine whether a 4-laneDisplayPort-only connection should be made (pin configurations A, C or E) or whether a 2-lane DisplayPort with two lanes of USB3 (MFDP) connection should be made (pin configurations B, D or F) in systems.

Hi Brian, ok I understand. Can you please send me the firmware, but for the TPS65982, as my EVM seems to be a strange version (schematics as to the latest version, but not with the TPS65987).

Can you take picture for EVM top view?

   Since the TUSB1064EVM  firmware was created with old firmware tool, so I can not update with new firmware version. ( can't find old version)

  You can return the EVM and replaced with TUSB1064-Q1 EVM

Ok, so TI hast sold me an outdated EVM which can't be used for my eval purposes. This EVM is the only EVM which is mentioned on the product page of TUSB1064, not a single link to the newer TUSB1064Q1-EVM. And according to TIs Terms of Safe EVMs can't be returned. Not really the way it should be, I guess.

Can you find local FAE ? they should be able to help you to replace EVM.

or did you contact TI EVM team  yet?

Hi, our local FAE has changed, by now we don't know who covers our company. Support ticket for this has been created one week ago, no answer until now.
What is the EVM team and how can I contact them? My only possibility are support tickets, and I can't find nothing regarding EVMs.

As said, our local TI FAE has changed his role, and no answer from his successor. We are searching for a new one, hopefully this will be resolved soon. 

We don't  have  extra TUSB1062Q1EVM right now. Let's see if we can order one , but it will take about two weeks.

Hi Brian, thanks for your effort, would appreciate that!
In the meantime, I'd like to ask for an alternate PD solutions. We are looking for a DisplayPort Alt mode capable PD controller, and it seems most of TIs previous PD controller (at least those which are Alt mode capable) are NRND (because of changes in PD specifications, I guess). Filtering the PD controllers tells me that the TPS26743/44 and the TPS25763 are the only active, Alt mode capable controllers right now, is that true? Or can you recommend any other of your PD controllers, which could be used for our purpose (Alt mode capable Type-C connection with TUSB1046/TUSB1064)?

Currently the only PD controllers that are not NRND are the ones listed above. However, these devices are only supported in automotive applications. We currently do not have any general purpose PD controllers that support DP/Alt modes.

can you please explain what "only supported in automotive applications" mean? Is it now allowed, or recommended, to use them ouside of automotive applications?
