Pin compatibility SN75174 and SM75LBC174

Hello,

I've been using the SN75174 to convert TTL Signals to RS-485 with success, but not I need a wider Bandwidth. I was thinking of using the SN75LBC174 which has 2 1/2 times the bandwidth of the SN75174 according to the datasheets.  I have not been able to find any information on the TI site as to whether these parts are compatible ot each other.

Anyone know or maybe another suggestion?

  • Hi John, the devices are mostly compatible, except the SN75LBC174 uses less supply current and switches faster. By definition an RS-485 compliant driver must provide a 1.5V differential output across a 54 ohms load. So output drive capability is also given.

    Thanks for your reply. Last night pondering this problem, I realised that I should have been a bit more specifice in the post (Sorry, for my newby-ism). Since both devices are tailored to the EIA-485 standard, I was less concerned with the output and more interesten in he inputs since the SN75174 are TTL and the SN75LBC174 are CMOS (LinBiCMOS).  Are there any special considerations, pull-up resistors, etc. which need to be considered?
