SN65LVPE502A / use CH1(Host to Device) only

Hi Team,

My customer considers to use CH1(Host to Device) only of SN65LVPE502A.
Is it possible to use CH1 only?

My customer's application is similar to the following figure and it seems USB3.0 Host has the equalizer that become optimal value automatically depending on the attenuation(cable loss).
So, he think CH2 isn't necessary.

  • Please have customer consider TUSB501 or TUSB551 for single-channel implementation.  The SN65LVPE502A requires both channels to operate correctly.

  • Hi Undrea-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
    I understood.

If my customer want to evaluate EQ1/DE1/OS1 setting for CH1 as the following, is it possible to be open both CH2 input and output?

He considers above for just evaluation only.
I believe it is no problem but would like to confirm just in case.

    Yaita

  • It is possible for test purposes only, by pulling pin 14 to VCC.  But, this will not work in a real functional environment as the Host will detect termination from the LVPE502A even when no device is attached which will prevent normal operation.

  • Hi Undrea-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

    I understood RSVD=VCC is required.
I believe it is also possible to be open both CH1 input/output for evaluating EQ2/DE2/OS2(CH2) setting to pull-up RSVD.
    Is my understanding correct?

    Best Regards,

  • Evaluation can be performed if connecting to test equipment to perform eye-diagram testing for example.  Evaluation for functionality may not be possible as the Host is likely to enter Compliance mode before a SuperSpeed link can be established between the Host and a device.  In this mode, the LVPE502A has termination enabled which will immediately be detected by the Host which will attempt a connection to a device(Which may not yet be present), timeout and enter Compliance mode.  Once in this mode functional operation is not possible until a RESET is initiated.
