I have a question regarding Texas Instruments DS90LV028AH High Temperature 3V LVDS Dual Differential Line Receiver. A 100 ohm input termination resistor is recommended in the specification. What are the effects if a termination resistor is not used? The receiver detects an input representing a Built in Test function that is either in the ON condition or the OFF condition. If a termination resistor is not used, will there be erroneous switching due to noise or other factors?

Hello Ken,

This is a wrong forum for such question. Moving your thread to logic forum.

However, the non-terminated LVDS lines are vulnerable to noise and ringing. The recommendations should be followed to achieve proper functionality.

Hi Ken,

The results are completely unknown.

1. Most LVDS outputs require a 100 ohm termination to achieve the correct voltage amplitude at the receiver. Without the resistor the LVDS output may not work correctly or at all.

2. Without a 100 ohm termination at the receiver, whatever signals are generated by the LVDS output will not be terminated by the correct impedance. This will create large reflections on the transmission line resulting in errors.
