TPS2557 / Over current detection method

Yes, this device has integrated current sensing. The entire channel resistance including current sensing elements is included in the Rds-on specification 35mohm maximum over temperature).

As for the response time, this is acquired at bench level and not tested in production. Only typical information is available.

The power switch Tios is merely a useful parameter to compare with other power switch's. The overall system level requirements rely on more than just Tios and are much a function of the capacitance (and capacitor ESR and ESL) on IN and OUT as well. These capacitors must provide the transient energy to a faulty load for Tios such that the input voltage remains within the system specification (for other circuits which share this voltage). 

The typical Tios in the datasheet was an average of the data set.
