Self-ID problem using TSB82AA2A and TSB41BA3D

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSB41BA3B, TSB41BA3D, TSB82AA2

We have a design that has used TSB82AA2A and TSB41BA3B for years.  We have recently switched to using TSB41BA3D PHY and now the interface does not work.  There is apparently a problem in the process of creating bus topology and reading self-IDs.  The document SLLZ060 "TSB41Ba3B to TSB41BA3D Transition Document" presents some modifications to the port speed/ mode selection but it is unclear how this might affect self-ID operation.

There is a document on the web that discusses an issue with these two chips not recognizing the local self-ID and presents a method of reading PHY registers to create a self-ID because the chip combination does not work.  See me.in-berlin.de/.../1327-firewire-ohci-tsb41ba3d-support-tweaks.patch

We have used TSB41BA3D with TSB12LV01BPZT with good results.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Is there another errata document?  Is there a solution to this issue?
