Hi,

SN65HVDA195-Q1 was damaged if applying the JASO A-1 load dump test(70V/200ms) to the VBAT terminal using the schematic which is mentioned on page 15 of SN65HVDA195-Q1 data sheet.
What kind of damage modes does SN65HVDA195-Q1 occur ?

    Hi Kato,

    For signal pins, overvoltage conditions most often induce failures in the transient protection cells. This failure mode typically expresses itself as a short to ground at the stressed pin or increased leakage current into the pin. For power pins like VSUP, though, the failure modes can be less predictable. The power rail is shared by many internal components that are typically only rated up to the absolute maximum voltage of that power rail (or slightly beyond it for design margin), and any of those components can become damaged if they are stressed beyond their rating.

    In this case damage to VSUP seems to be the most likely issue, so I would recommend implementing some external protection (like a TVS diode) on that net in order to improve the system's immunity to JASO A-1 stresses.
