LMH0384: 50R transformer coupled input

Part Number: LMH0384

Has anyone used the LMH0384 with an input transformer (range 125MHz to 250MHz)  in particular the L, C and R values for the impedance matching network?  Should one side of the transformer output be grounded or use proper differential input?  Many thanks Dave

  • Hi Dave,

As this device is intended for 3G HD-SDI applications, it seems unusual to use an input transformer as a means of implementing the impedance matching network, so I am curious about the reason why your design calls for a transformer. Do you have a block diagram to illustrate this application?

Typically the matching network is made of discrete components (in particular, the inductor L) that can be chosen per design to optimize the BNC input return loss.

  • Hi Michael,

The transformer coupling is to avoid linking the 0V of different systems together via multiple paths.  Our customer demands the isolation so its easiest to show him the transformer and he can tick a box!  So, we have the transformer secondary where the application circuit has a BNC.

    thanks, Dave
