TMDS171RGZEVM: reduce DVI video disturbance

Part Number: TMDS171RGZEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS171

advice how to configure the evaluation board - jumpers or i2c software - to best remove display distortion.

it is believed that the artifacts are due to bad path in our box and also from our box to the custormer's display.

  • Hi Ofek,

Using the I2C mode gives you more control over the device.
If you have the EVM it's better if you use EyeScan tool, there you can see estimates of the input eye diagram and select EQ in a very friendly way.

  • the EyeScan tool is used, and improve picture quality, but not enough. The files attached contains the EyeScan registers and eye pattern. Also included simplified schematic of DVI route.

  • Hi Ofek,

I see this is a source application, by default TMDS171 is configured to sink application, you can change this to source application on EyeScan or register 0x0A[7].

It seems the signal is not stable on the output from TMDS171, to compensate the losses in the output channel you can increase the amplitude of the signal by adjusting Vsadj(Figure  3); if the channel is bandwidth limited add pre-emphasis.

EyeScan will give you eye diagram from the input signal, it would be better if you can take scope captures on monitor's DVI connector.

    Regards
