TUSB1002EVM: Cannot see USB 3.0 devices after the re-driver.

Part Number: TUSB1002EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1002,

Hello, my setup is:

Host PC ------>(USB A to USB B cable 0.5 m)--------->TUSB1002EVMRe-driver------------> USB 3.0 stick memory

Host PC ------>(USB A to USB B cable 0.5 m)--------->TUSB1002EVMRe-driver------------> (USB A to USB A cable 1.5 m)-------------------> USB 3.0 stick memory

I've tried USB 3.0 and 3.1 ports,

I've also tried different jumpers configuration for the EQ and Config

But the behavior is always the same: I see the device behind the Re-driver in USB 2.0 mode.
I cant get transfer rates over 40 MB/s

Note that with USB 3.0 windows advises that the device can be connected to SS port.( it is already connected to SS port)

I've tried also in linux and I could check that the connection detected was 2.10 same as windows.

So I'm out of ideas to figure out how to see a device behind this re-driver working successfully at 3.0 Mode.

Thanks in advance for the answers.

  • Hey tikitaka,

    Could you send along your jumper config? Could be helpful to us in diagnosing the issue.

    Best Regards,
    Nick

  • Hello Tikitaka,

    I think that the issue here is that you have a short cable and thus the TUSB1002 is over equalizing the signal. Please consider to test the EVM using longer cables, like 1.8m. Do you have a USB analyzer, to see the USB packets and debug this issue deeper?.

    Regards,
    Diego.
  • Hello Nick

    I've tried different jumper configurations but here is the most basic one that I'm using.

  • By your recommendation I've connected the TUSB1002EVM like this:

    Host PC ------>(USB A to USB B cable 1.8 m)--------->TUSB1002EVMRe-driver------------> (USB A to USB A cable 1.8 m)-------------------> USB 3.0 stick memory

    The behavior is still the same, no benefit from this config.
    Actually my goal is to test a USB stick after 5m of cable with the TUSB1002 at the beginning and at the end of the 5m.
    But currently I'm just trying to see the TUSB1002 working.

    Regards
  • Tikitaka,

        Can you get eye measurements, so we can estimate the correct EQ settings for your implementation?

    diego.

  • Hey Tikitaka,

    Just a message to boost the thread back to your attention in case Diego's request got buried.

    Best Regards,
    Nick
  • Hello Again,

    We could measure the signals TX and RX with a differential prove on the USB3.0.

    We can just see some communication when device is plugged in, then we have no signaling anymore.

    It moves to USB 2.0.

    Then we try most of the EQ configurations and CFG options without success. ( reseting the device each time)

    We dont know why is so difficult to see USB 3.0 interface working through this Re-driver.

    Regards,

    Fernando

  • Hello Tikitaka,

        Perhaps it is the same incompatibility issue that this post describes.  The workaround is to include AC capacitors on the RX differential pair, as described in the post.

    Regards,

    Diego.
