TPS65986EVM: FTDI Connection

Part Number: TPS65986EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65982, TPS65981, TPS65981EVM

Hi USB Team,

One of my customers is evaluating the TPS65986EVM ad having trouble connecting it to the Host Interface Tool via a FTDI FT232H dev board. No connection via either USB EP or FTDI to the Tool

What we have tried so far:

- Removed pre-installed FTDI drivers and installed the ones that come with the Host Interface Tool installation file (multiple times).

- Installed the Applications Customization Tool with included FTDI driver, no success.

- Followed instructions in the following E2E post (link) without any success.

Questions:

-Does the TPS65982 driver that comes with the Host Interface Tool is the same as the TPS65986? Is the driver the same for the TPS6598 family?

- Any steps we may have missed? Suggestions moving forward?

EDIT:

-Customer is using Win10.

  • Hi Leo,

Make sure you're downloading the Config tool (applications customizations tool) and NOT the Host Interface Tool. I would recommend to uninstall your FTDI drivers and start again by downloading the Config tool (look below) which can be found here: http://www.ti.com/tool/tps6598x-config

laptop and have no issues on our end. If you're still having trouble, try to download the config tool on a different computer and see if the problem persists. I hope this helps :-)

  • Hi Aramis,

As I mentioned on my original post, my customer did try the Applications Customization Tool with included FTDI driver and no success. I will verify if previous FTDI drivers were uninstalled first.

Can you clarify my question regarding the TPS6598x drivers?

    Regards,
    Leo
  • Hi Leo,

I saw that the previous post kept mentioning the Host Interface tool. This tool is much different from the Apps Customization tool. Both have different FTDI drivers. I just wanted to clarify to NOT use and/or download the Host Interface tool.

The Applications Customization Tool has the same drivers for all three TPS65981/2/6 devices.  I  hope this helps.

  • Aramis,

Thanks for the clarification regarding the TPS6589x drivers. My customer seems to have a problem with this as well, as Windows suggest there may be a problem with the driver (see attached). Comments?

Do we have a list of supported FTDI boards? No luck with the Application Customization Tool.

    Regards,

    Leo

  • Hi Leo,

There are two options that I recommend:

    1) The TPS65981EVM has an attached FTDI board which can be broken off and used with the TPS65986.

    2) We have a standalone FTDI board that we use in our day-to-day operations. Email me and I'll send the orderable number so that you can request a ZS order.

I hope this helps :-) If this answers your question, PLEASE select  This resolved my issue.

  • Aramis,

Thank you, that would be very helpful. I'll send you a note immediately.

    Regards,

    Leo
