TPS2066C: ESD specification of TPS2066C

Part Number: TPS2066C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2066, TS3USB3000, TPS2549, TPS25810

The TPS2066C datasheet shows the ESD Spec.
Specification of 8KV, 15KV comes out as shown in the attached figure.
I do not usually see other devices, but the TPS2066C comes out.
Other QFN types do not have surge specification on the PCB.
What's the difference with other devices?
What are the characteristics of these surge specification devices?

  • Hi, Taemin,

What does other devices mean? Can you give me an example so that I can reply you more specifically.

    Thanks.
  • Hi Bob

Only TPS2066C devices have ESD specifications for Contact and Air.
For example, there is no such specification in the TPS2066.
And TS3USB3000 is QFN, but there is no such specification.
    What's the difference?

    Thanks
    Taemin
  • Hi, Taemin,

There shows 3 kinds of ESD protection level.
    1. HBM(human body model)
    2. CDM(charge device model)
3.IEC 61000-4-2. It includes contact discharge and air discharge.

From datasheet, TPS2066 and TS3USB3000 just support HBM and CDM level ESD protection. TPS2066C support all HBM, CDM and IEC 61000-4-2 level ESD protection. And it's not related to IC package. For example, TPS2549, TPS254900, TPS25810, they all are QFN part, but they support all these 3 level ESD protection.

In a word, the information in datasheet is guaranteed. If the function is shown in datasheet, it means we are sure that this part can support this function, vice versa.
