TPS2552D: Why TPS2552D is cheaper than TPS2552

Part Number: TPS2552D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2552,

Hello,

I was considering TPS2552 for my application to limit the current at 150mA. then read on the website to use

TPS2552D for cost-constrained designs. Checked the specs/datasheets of both the devices, but still couldn't conclude what makes the TPS2552D much cheaper than TPS2552. What are the features/spec I'll loose when using TPS2552D? Can you please highlight.

Thanks.

  • Hi, Pon,

The only difference is material of bonding wire. TPS2552D use copper bonding wire and TPS2552 use gold bonding wire. So TPS2552D is cheaper. But the die is same, just as you saw, no much difference comparing the datasheet.

Looking through the datasheet, the only difference is Vin range(7.3 in datasheet). No more need to highlight.
    TPS2552D: 2.7V - 6.5V
    TPS2552: 2.5V - 6.5V

    Regards,
    Bob
