TPS2541A: Using a USB Port Power Switch and Have few queries before going for Fab

Hi,

I have got my schematic reviewed already about TPS2541ARTET switch usage.

One things i forgot to check is interoperability between TI's TPS2541ARTET and Microchip's USB2514BI/M2.

The USB2514BI/M2 hub has internal BC1.1 detection capability, but since I am using TPS2541ARTET which has BC1.2 detection capability , will this combination work or do i see any interoperability issues between the 2 devices?

Requirement has slightly changed now, earlier plan was to support one port as SDP and one as CDP. Now one port will be SDP and other will be DCP (no need of data)

Attaching the schematics for the reference.

Questions have in my mind are...

1. Since the hub USB2514BI/M2 also has the BC1.1 detection capabality, and the switch TPS2541A also has BC1.2 detection capability. I am not sure if I can use TPS2541A along with USB2514BI/M2 hub. Is there any inter operable issue between these 2 devices?

2. Have you seen any of your customers using TPS2541A with USB2514BI/M2 or similar?

3. Do i need to disable the battery charging functionality of USB2514BI/M2 inorder to use TPS2441A's BC feature?

4.Since I am configuring one port as DCP (i dont need data), D+ and D- will be completely isolated from the Hub, in that case will the D+/D- be terminated inside the TPS2541A? or do i need to have external pull ups?

Hello Chethan,

I apologize for the late reply. For some reason your post did not originally come up on our feed of new questions.

1. I cannot comment on the compatibility of our part with the USB2514B. To make sure the USB charger and the controller are compatible with one another, I would recommend using a TI part such as the TUSB8041. Here is a reference design for a hub that you can follow

3. I cannot comment on the function of the USB2514B as it is not a TI part, nor have I ever used it before.

4. A resistor internal to the TPS2541A will connect the D+/D- lines together following the BC1.2 specification. There's nothing else you need to do on your end.
