In my current system, my receiver RS485 chip is DS16F95AJA while the transceiver chip was a SIPEX 5V RS485. Due to failure of SIPEX part, the only option I have is to replace it with SN65HVD11-HT. While the datasheet says recommended VCC to be 3.3-3.6V, it quotes absolute maximum voltage as 6V from which I am well under. The 5V I have is regulated with maximum variation going up to 5.2V. I had done a trial with SN65HVD11 and adding a 2kOhm termination resistor between A & B. While measuring the signals at both A & B, I see the magnitude of both is higher than 200mV and signal is detected without an issue.
My question and concerns are
1. Are there any detrimental affects on SN65HVD11-HT by powering it with 5V? I am below maximum rating and not exceeding any other environmental conditions.
2. Apart from confirming the differential signals are higher than 200mV, what other checks I should do for the change.
Appreciate your kind response.
