DS90UA101-Q1: Multi-Channel Audio over SERDES

Part Number: DS90UA101-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UA102-Q1

Hello Ti and Forum,

I have some questions about my application diagram.

#1.  It appears the SERDES DS90UA101-Q1 and DS90UA102-Q1 can be used to send multi-channel audio between devices using the FPD-LINK III.

It also appears the SERDES DS90UB925/926/927/928, include RGB 24 bit video, but can also be used for sending multi-channel audio between devices using the FPD-LINK III.

Is there any benefit to using the DS90UA101/102 versus the DS90UB92X devices?

#2.  Can the uC that provides I2C bus register programming be placed on either end of the link?

From the data sheet it looks like it can, but is most commonly connected to the deserializer side with the deserilizer setup for pass thru to the serializer.

#3.  Do I need to tie my master clock to SCK on the serializer side?  Datasheet says it will generate SCK from the PLL of the I2S inputs.

#4.  Is there any advantage to using PLL DAC's on the output of the deserializer that do not require SCK (MCLK) to convert I2S data.
