Hello Chris-

1. Yes, you can have an I2C master on both sides of the link.

2. The FPD-Link III (high-speed forward + bidirectional control channel) would continue working normally. The bi-directional control channel is used for other purposes (such as passing link diagnostic data) not just I2C. You may control both devices from either of both sides of the link, but the bidirectional control channel would still be running.

Hi Davor,

I would like to modify the interface from STP cable to use LVDS or compatible transmitter and receiver that use only the forward channel and eliminate the bidi control channel. So, will the Forward Channel work without or independent of the Bidi control?

Hello Chris-

No, it would not work without bidirectional control channel. The FPD-Link III interface does not allow optical transmitter / receivers or redrives/ buffers in the signal path.

Is there an FPD LINK II - I2S Multichannel device that has individual Forward Channel and BIDI Control Channel?
If so, I could MUX those together optically and achieve the same result.

Only select FPD-Link III device support multichannel I2C.
