TPD13S523: ESD protection for USB Type C HDMI alternate mode

Hi,

I am designing a system for USB-C HDMI alternate mode and would like some recommendations for the ESD protection. Please see my system diagram below:

I am looking for ESD protection at the receiver side of the HDMI port and ESD protection at the transmitter side of the USB-C connector (see red boxes below). Do you think TPD13S523 would be a good fit for my application? Is there any other ESD protection IC you would recommend?

Jeff,

The TPD13S523 is intended as a device side protection device, so it would be appropriate to protect the USB-C side connections, but not the HDMI connector size in this application, but given that the control signals are not necessary, I would recommend something more like the TPD4E02B04.

This device will protect the high speed data lines very well without the extra functionality of the TPD13S523.

So your recommendation is to use TPD13S523 on the USB-C side and TPD4E02B04 (x2) on the HDMI connector side.

From a cost perspective, you should also look at using the TP4E2B04 on both interfaces. The tPD13S523 has a lot of function your customer will not be utilizing.
